Weld Re-8 Schools Closed Friday, March 13, 2020

Dear Weld Re-8 Parents and Guardians:

As the number of people in Colorado testing positive with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) increases, we want to maintain open communication with you on our district plan.  Information has become available through the Weld County and Colorado Health Departments which has resulted in Weld Re-8 School District and other schools throughout the Denver Metro area, making a decision to close down schools for the next two weeks.

In Weld Re-8 that means there will be no school beginning Friday, March 13th through Friday, March 27th.  At this time we will plan for school to resume on Monday, March 30th as normal.  In addition, Parent Teacher Conferences for the middle school, high school and Homyak will be cancelled.  We encourage parents to reach out for individual conferences with teachers when school resumes.

We have provided homework activities for the four calendar days of school that the students will be missing (March 13th through March 18th).  March 19th and March 20th were already non student contact days, therefore students are not expected to complete work for these days.   Teachers have communicated with students their expectations around completion of these homework activities.  Some teachers are sending homework activity packets while others are posting homework activities on Google Classroom.  In the event your child has been sent home with more than four days worth of homework activities, students can choose to complete the additional activities to strengthen their skills.

At this time, we continue to monitor all available health communications as well as Governor Polis’ releases and will continue to provide you with updated information as we receive it.  Thank you for your support and continued understanding.

Alan Kaylor, Superintendent of Schools.
