November Newsletter

Greetings FLHS Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe it is November already.  This means we have six weeks of school remaining in first semester.  While the month of November is a winding down time for us at the high school, we do have a few important events to make you aware of.  First of all, the high school band would like to invite you to attend their Fall music concert on Wednesday, November 1st at 7:00pm in the high school auditorium.    November 6th is a professional development day for teachers, which means there is no school for students.  Teachers at the high school will be receiving training in our Standard Response Protocol for emergency situations and practicing their roles for an off sight evacuation.  They will also be involved in training for the new technology boards that were installed as part of our renovation project at the high school.  On Wednesday, November 8th, we will be hosting a Winter Sports Parent Meeting at 6:30pm, and on the evenings of the 9th through the 11th, our Drama Team will be performing, Nothing But The Truth, at 7:00pm each night.  Finally, on November 16th at 6:30pm we will have our Fall athletic banquet in the high school gymnasium.

Our second benchmark test for freshmen will take place on Thursday, November 16th during the school day.  We are using a new benchmark assessment this year called NWEA Maps.  This assessment allows us to gage where students’ strengths are as well as what skills they need more instruction and practice on.  Teachers use this information to drive the instruction in their classrooms.

The week of November 12-17th will be an anti-bullying theme week, with activities planned by our student committee in order to bring awareness and prevention to our students.  Thanksgiving break will take place the week of November 20-24th, with no school for students nor staff. We wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and hope you spend some quality time with family and friends.

When we return from break, Monday, the 27th will be a late start for students, and Thursday, November 30th, we will have a Safe Teen Driving assembly in the gym.  This assembly is sponsored by the Department of Transportation and their Think Fast Awareness Program.

I would like to remind all parents that we offer after school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays for all students.  If your child is missing assignments, needs help on an assignment, or needs a quiet place to study and complete homework, please send them to afterschool tutoring.  You can call the main office at 303-857-7100 for more information.  Parents we encourage you to check the status of your child’s grades and attendance through our Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  If you do not have a username and password for I.C. please call Marisol Zito at 303-857-7119.

Thank you parents for all of your support.  Together we will help our students to succeed.
