Hello Bluedevil Parents and Guardians and Happy April,
Our first day back from Spring Break is Monday, April 3rd. This will be a late start Monday, so school will begin at 9:00am for students. PARCC testing for 9th graders, as well as CMAS testing for 11th graders will begin on Wednesday, April 5th and end on Friday, April 7th. The Freshmen will be tested in the areas of ELA – reading and writing, as well as math, while Juniors will be tested in the area of science. We encourage all 9th and 11th graders to be present at school during these days so they can participate in the testing. This testing is how the state measures and ranks our school performance. So please encourage your student to attend and try their best on these assessments. If you choose for your child to opt out of these assessments, you must complete an opt out form, which can be obtained in the Principal’s office, and meet with Assistant Principal, Jeff Hoff, to turn in the signed form.
The eligibility determination date for the Junior/Senior Prom is April 7th. All students planning to attend prom, must be eligible on April 7th. This means that students can have no more than one “ F” if they want to attend prom. Prom will be April 15th from 7:30pm to 11:30pm at Bella Sera Event Center in Brighton. An after prom party will follow at the high school from 11:30pm to 3:30am. Cigarettes, alcohol and drugs will not be permitted at Prom nor at the after prom party. Students possessing illegal substances, or suspected of being under the influence of illegal substances will be sent home, suspended from school and police will be called. We want this to be a safe, fun night for all participants.
FLHS will be hosting a Meet the Scholars Night at 6:00pm in the commons on April 13th. Please join our senior students as they showcase their awards and successes throughout their high school experience, as they compete for local scholarships.
There will be no school on Friday, April 14th. School will resume on Monday, April 17th, for a late start at 9:00am.
Please refer to our school website for details on dates and times of upcoming Senior, end of the year events. Graduation is going to be here before we know it.
Thank you to all of the parents who attended Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences. We appreciate everything you do for your student(s). Together we can guide them to success. In these last final weeks of school it is important for students to finish strong and follow the 4 P’s of success: Persistence to keep improving, taking Pride in their work and themselves, cultivating a Passion for learning, and being Prepared.
