Principal's Corner

August 2017 Newsletter

Hello FLHS Parents, Guardians and Students,

Welcome back to school.  Students, I hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready to get back into the groove of learning and challenging yourself to continually grow in knowledge and skill.  We have several new staff members joining us this year:  Mr. Hensel,  will be teaching 9th Grade L.A. and Creative Writing classes, Mr.  Rocha is our new P.E. teacher, and both Ms. Minor, and Mr. Taylor are teaching Special education classes.   Please welcome them to our Bluedevil Family!

Construction at the high school has been underway all summer, and the remodeled classrooms are just about finished.  We have fire sprinklers, new lighting, new carpet and painted walls, refinished cabinets, new furniture and new technology boards in every classroom that is part of phase one of the remodel project.  Phase two will begin shortly after school starts and will include the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) wing of the building as well as our business classroom and school store.   Students, your first day of classes will be August 21st.  The school day begins at 7:45am and ends at 3:25pm.  Parents, we would like to invite you to our Open House Back to School Night on August 23rd from 5:00pm-7:00pm, where you can meet the teachers and see phase one of the renovation.

The focus for instruction this year will continue to be on best instructional practices,  with an emphasis on literacy as well as collaboration among content partners and across content areas.    We will work diligently first semester to build a content specific literacy plan for each department with the guidance of Sterling Literacy and our instructional coach, Ms. Cochetti.   Our goal is to ensure that students have the reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills necessary to be successful beyond high school.  Our vision is FLHS is a place to learn and demonstrate personal growth, engage in critical thinking, and prepare for opportunities beyond high school.

Our motto is for students to experience the four P’s:

        Passion for learning

        Personal success

being Prepared

Welcome Back!  I am excited for our journey together, and thankful to be afforded this opportunity to work with our students.  "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." --Helen Keller
